Practical OHL Delivery
From approved project information to controlled construction on site.
Overhead-line work brings together structures, conductors, access, outages, lifting, earthing and interfaces with existing network assets. Each stage needs to be coordinated so that the works can be delivered safely and in the correct sequence.
AI Engineering supports this process through practical site engineering and construction delivery, working from the approved design information, project requirements, RAMS and client procedures applicable to each scheme.
Our OHL Capabilities
Practical capability across structures, line works and network interfaces.
Steel Tower Assembly & Erection
Assembly and controlled erection of overhead-line structures, including staged works around planned outage requirements.
Wood Pole & H-Pole Structures
Setting out, assembly, steelwork, crossarms, stays, erection and completion of wood-pole and H-pole structures.
Conductor & OPGW Works
Rigging, conductor and earthwire activities, OPGW installation, fittings and associated line-work operations in accordance with approved project information.
Diversions & Network Modifications
Conductor transfers, temporary arrangements and staged modifications required to move an existing circuit onto new or altered infrastructure.
Dismantling & Recovery Works
Controlled dismantling and recovery of redundant line components, including ADSS and associated fittings where included in the project scope.
Earthing & OHL Interfaces
Structure earthing, sealing end platform and cable ladder interfaces, downleads, droppers and other associated works within the agreed construction scope.
Where We Add Value
Practical OHL support across construction, modification and network interfaces.
Tower & Pole Construction
Supporting steel lattice towers, wood poles and H-pole structures through preparation, assembly, steelwork installation, lifting and erection activities, with construction controls matched to the approved project sequence.
Conductor, OPGW & Line Works
Supporting conductor transfers, earthwire and OPGW works, rigging and associated fittings, with construction activities completed against the approved line information, working methodology and project controls.
Diversions, Modifications & Dismantling
Supporting temporary spans, conductor transfers, diversion works, final connections and controlled dismantling or recovery where assets need to be altered, replaced or removed.
Earthing & OHL Interfaces
Supporting structural earthing, downleads and droppers, sealing end platform and cable ladder interfaces, signage and other completion activities where they form part of the agreed OHL construction scope.
OHL Construction Through Delivery
A controlled sequence from preparation to completion.
-
01
Review & Plan
Approved drawings, design information, access requirements, RAMS, programme, outage interfaces and construction controls are reviewed before work starts.
-
02
Set Out & Prepare
Structure positions and working areas are established as required, existing-service information is considered, and plant, materials and access arrangements are prepared.
-
03
Assemble & Erect
Tower or pole structures are assembled with the required steelwork, crossarms, stays and associated components before controlled erection in accordance with the project methodology.
-
04
Earth & Rig
Structural and conductor earthing, rigging ropes, working/access equipment and relevant fittings are established for the next stage of the works.
-
05
Install, Transfer or Modify
Depending on the project, this may include conductor or OPGW installation, conductor transfers, temporary spans, network diversion activities, downleads, droppers or controlled dismantling.
-
06
Verify & Handover
Construction checks, hold points, quality records and project-specific completion information are assembled to support handover.
Controlled OHL Delivery
Sequence matters when the network, structures and site all interact.
OHL construction often involves existing assets, restricted access, work at height, lifting operations and tightly controlled network interfaces. A change at one stage can affect the activities that follow.
AI Engineering's approach is to connect the approved engineering information with the practical requirements of the working site — helping the project team plan, execute, check and record the works in a controlled sequence.
Project Outputs
Construction information that supports delivery and handover.
Exact outputs depend on the agreed project scope, client requirements and the construction activities being undertaken.
Construction Methodology
RAMS and task-specific working arrangements applicable to the agreed activities.
Setting Out / Site Records
Relevant site engineering and location records where included within the works.
Inspection & Hold-Point Records
Quality checks and recorded hold points associated with the construction sequence.
Structure / Earthing Records
Project-specific records associated with installed structures, steelwork and earthing where required.
Line-Work Records
Installation, transfer, OPGW installation or sagging records where these form part of the project scope.
Handover Information
Completion and as-built information produced in the format required by the project.
